1112 Source from the Past

Nkrumah's call for African unity rather than fragmentation reflect the tensions between decolonization and the ongoing cold war because if separate African countries declare independence than that is going to cause huge tensions between all of the small broken countries in Africa, instead of standing as one. Also he speaks upon the fact that the United States and Russia are wasting each others money building up stockpiles of nuclear weapons that most likely will never be used.To be great county does not involve weapons, rather deep rooted faith in each other and will emerge as one. Also he says Africa's power will not be built on fear like communist countries rather in hope, trust and friendship. If all of Africa tries to separate themselves from each other they will never ever be able to successfully stand as a great power and achieve the goal of political union and peace.

Reading last night

The reading from last night filled out my ideas for the explanation I did in class yesterday. My drawings represented larger ideas of the war and the coalition of countries. The idea of the domination of the war the untied states had I depicted in my cartoon. I drew the United States intervening ad trying to make peace after the war and trying to help rebuild most of Europe's economy.

Similarities/differences between Islamic empires, Ming/Qing China and Tokugawa Japan

All for these empires are similar in their view on trade. They all looked inward and viewed long distance trade as more of a luxury than a necessity. They differed in the fact of the Islamic empires gave women a somewhat key role as compared the Asian empires where women were viewed as property to men and had almost no rights whatsoever.

Opinion in placing them together

I believe that the book puts these three groups together because of how much they share in common. All of them share the same exports and all somewhat have same views on religions. These were probably grouped together because they also are three rising empires and this will help to see the rise and fall of numerous empires at the same time.

Fabian Fucan's attack on Christianity

Immediately in the reading, he tells how much he out into the teachings of Christianity and how angry he was when he realizes that it is "a perverse and cursed faith". For him there is a lot of anger because of lost time he spent diligently study Christianity for twenty years.he refers to Christians as barbarians and claims that Christianity is on a crooked path. He refers to Christianity. Numerous times as foolish and being a cursed face and he says this in a very angry tone because he does not want others to make the same mistake he did. He also says he is going to print teachings on his advice and views on Christianity. Socially printing his views could spread across all of Japan and lead many common people to question Christianity, a faith instituted by people on the other side of the world.

Quianlong POV

The reason Quianlong writes his letter in a condescending tone. This is because he has been blind to reality and feels nobody else is the son of God, and this puts no filter on what he says to anyone because he has never had to suffer consequences.

History having predictive values

History does have predictive values because on my blog, I predicted correctly in what was going to happen both in their society and economy and foreign relations. Amit also predicted correctly on their economy looking rather inward than trading outward with other societies. We were both able to make predictions by looking at both the past and guessing what would be the most reasonable thing. Through forming a educated type guess we were both able to make reasonable predictions that were correct.

Upcoming Socities

I believe that upcoming, societies will be very patriarchal and will be very focused on their own societies before they go out and be social with others. I believe this is when China will try to isolate themselves and their culture as much as possible from the outside world and focus on traditional values.

homework march 5th

first chart- the first chart shows a steady growth in population from 1500-1800. There is nothing really surprising about this chart because a steady food source and supply is what most likely lead to the population jump over the years.

second chart- the chart shows a rapid growth of slaves in a matter of 200 years. yet this is not surprising because most of the european colonies were starting to grow cash crops and needed people to do the heavy labor at a cheap price.

third chart- the third chart shows the amount of slaves in european colonized areas. this chart is not surprising because most slaves were sent to areas where cash crops where they needed people to the heavy labor, as opposed to the north where fur trading was much more common.

all of these do a good job because they help explain how rapid growth colonization caused. with a steady food source and good income, population will grow and so will the economy. this does help me expand in the understanding of the textbook because it provides a visual which the textbook does not give. These visuals are important because they help explain the larger idea of colonization and how rapid it truly was.

Comments on other people's blogs

Mark W.
Your chart was very nice for many reasons. It was extremely clear and easy to understand meanwhile it got all of the important points across. Well done sir.

Fahey
This was another clear and well thought out chart. This chart clearly explained the ideas and also was neatly put together.

Amit
This was a good chart, and was easy to understand. I really liked the app you used because visually it helped in explaining itself.

app review of voice thread

overall, your app was mediocre. I used your app for a project in my AP world history class to have a conversation between Marco Polo and his family. The app was somewhat successful in recording the conversation between all of us, although it was a little buggy. The one thing I suggest for the app is that you guys find a more convenient way to share the voice threads among numerous groups of people. the only way right now to share is through email and sometimes that fails to share among wireless devices. the way we had to do it was to log in our voicethread account online and copy and paste the link into google docs, and then open it from there. if you guys fix that and make the app a little more user friendly, i would suggest this app to people i know.

the coming era

The coming era I believe in the fact of trading and trade networking will be the major focus on the societies. The cities that ports are based out of will have a whole syn-cretinism of cultures and thats how ideas will spread. I believe there is going to be somewhat of a shift away from agriculture but will remain the same for the most part, becuase where there is fertile land, its going to be hard to not make food there. The world being much more connected now, I believe that more ideas will spread quicker across regions and slave trade will be one of the most lucrative businesses to get into in the coming era. I also believe that the colonization of lands in the Americas will be a very large part of countries expanding their exports and trades with other countries.

Columbus Holiday

The myth of Christopher Columbus is quite scary considering the fact that we practically praise him as a hero and a great man for "finding the United States". Columbus was not a nice man and many things about him turned up about him later in his life. The question is then, why do we have a holiday and numerous cities named after him. First of all, the holiday was instituted in 1937, and while I don't believe he deserves all of the praise that many textbooks commonly give him, he deserves a little. Columbus had described and recorded his journeys very precise and therefore other European explorers were not as afraid to come out and explore the rest of the unknown lands. Columbus opened the door to exploration in the Americas and also a western sea route to the east was discovered partly because of him. The reason we have a holiday for him is because of plain ignorance. Not many people will complain when they are getting a long weekend for some guy who discovered their country. Thats about as most Americans will go in discussing Christopher Columbus and everybody seems to forget that he disrupted a society on the DR/Hati and led them to a complete eradication only to bring back slaves but yet ruin a whole societies way of life and families.

Homework Jan 30th

Ibn and Marco are not typical of people during their time period because of the extensive travels that they went on. They traveled all over the Europe, Asia and Africa and that was practically unheard of during their time. Many commoners could not afford such expensive travels and therefore few made such distant journeys. They would be much more typical of this time period because they covered so much area of land and ocean, which is much more accessible and easier to do these days. Marine traveling is much easier now as opposed to the past when it was long and extensive and also costly.

Third Crusade

This crusade last from 1182-1192 and when in the beginning, three of Europe's finest conquerors led it, King Richard, Frederick Barbarossa and King Philip. Obviously, there must have been some intimidation, but things took a turn for the worse for the three rulers. Before even arriving, Frederick Barbarossa fell off of his horse in a river and drowned causing much of his troops to feel discouraged because elf the loss of their leader and head home. King Philip and King Richard always butted heads back and forth for a whole until Philip decided after capturing Acre, he was done. And then there was one, Richard headed to the Holy Land looking to conquer. Saladin, who then was the ruler of Jerusalem was just a good guy. He wanted to sit down and talk and work it out, at first Richard would not. Richard feel to a fever and Saladin have him fruits and supplies, once Richard decided to talk it out, they both decided Christians nor anyone should be taxed to visit the Holy Land and King Richard returned home. The Muslims were much more willing to talk it out with the Christians and were much more reasonable because they valued the Holy Land and wanted to preserve it.

Child Crusade

Poor, poor choice for the youth. A group of children, ranging from 4 to 18 decided that they were going to the holy land and tack back what was theirs. This was horribly put together and more was along the lines of a occupy Wall Street gathering. Many of the children realized that they missed their mothers and wanted to go home but it was too late, unfortunately they where kidnapped on the way back and sold into slavery or vanished. For the brave that did truck on a little further, once arriving at the Mediterranean Sea they realized they needed a boat. Thousands of kids went on this "conquest" scarcely any came back. Could not imagine anything other than laughs by the Muslims for this "crusade".

I do not take credit for the one that says memebase.com on it, but thought it should be included

The Peace Crusade

The peace crusade was a change of heart for the crusaders. After all the fighting they caused, they thought, maybe should just ask? Frederick II, who was recently excommunicated for failing to follow a former popes wishes about his crusades, decided to change it up to get on the popes good side again. Frederick II decided instead of using an army, why not reason? When he came to terms with the others leaders in Jerusalem, they signed a treaty saying that Christians could enter the city, but nothing could be changed or renovated. Frederick crowned himself king and a astounding 19 people showed up to his ceremony. A lot easier than actually thought to be able to share the holy land. Muslims must have been like "wow they finally just realized all they had to do was ask nicely".

Map of Africa and Revised Map of Africa

The textbook company left out the details from the reading for a number of reasons. One reason is that the they assume that you would have already understood it from the reading excerpts in the book. Another reason is that it would be too costly for them to add more than the maps they they believe is necessary. The map would also look very messy and squished together if they tried to fit to much information on there and it would be unclear to read. The impact of the additions to me is new ideas and new areas of focuses. To have a key with the time periods of each kingdoms helps because it gives a drawn visual of where it was, and I believe that's the better way to learn it. I believe more detailed maps would be absorbed into my brain easier and would all around be a much better way to learn both the culture and geography features.

My Story

When I die I would want to be remembered through song and ceremonies like the African griots. I would want this because they value much more of who a person is, rather than the "important" things they achieved in their life. Also it would be much easier to spread my fame and myself through song because it is easy to remember and many people could remember it and preform their own ceremonies. The most important reason why I would want to be remembered through song is because it would be so much more real and much more meaning behind it and people would understand and picture as opposed to skimming through a book like most do.
